Description: NEAS Australia is a global leader in quality assurance for the English Language Teaching (ELT) sector. NEAS Australia quality assures more than 200 individuals and organisations in Australia, ASEAN, China and the Middle East. As an independent, non-governmental, quality assurance specialist for the English language teaching (ELT) community, NEAS endorses ELT centres and courses in universities, high schools, vocational colleges, independent colleges and online providers. NEAS also quality assures education agents, products and services and ELT professionals.

OBJECTIVES:

4. Increase Australian market share for ELT quality assurance.
5. Increase NEAS brand traction in the ASEAN market for ELT endorsement.

Description: • NEAS is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. NEAS is governed by a Board of Directors, which comprises of an independent Chair, up to three member elected Directors and up to four Independent Directors. The NEAS Board is responsible for policy review and development, the quality assurance framework, appeals against decisions of the ELT Endorsement Committee, and overall direction, reputation and viability of NEAS.

Measure: The profile of the reviewers is consistent with the Mission Statement
Description: • NEAS abides by Fair Work Legislation and all relevant areas of common law in Australia and strictly conforms to relevant legislative requirements that apply to operations abroad. When engaging overseas-based translators for special projects delivered to the Ministries of Education of foreign nations, NEAS seeks and accepts recommendations from the Australian Embassy in those countries, and follows the terms and conditions quoted by vendors. • As a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, NEAS abides by clear regulatory and reporting obligations consistent with the operation of charities. NEAS is, moreover, subject to annual inspections conducted by external auditors. As a registered charity, NEAS upholds the values of fairness, accountability, independence, integrity, and respect in its engagement with all stakeholders.
5 Criterion: Independence:
Measure: The judgements and recommendations of the agency’s reports cannot be changed by third parties
Description: • The important quality assurance work conducted by NEAS Quality Assessors is subject to the scrutiny and approval of the NEAS Endorsement Committee. The Endorsement Committee, in turn, is overseen by the NEAS Chief Executive Officer, who is ultimately answerable to a Board of Directors.
• NEAS publishes an Appeal Policy on its website, which provides clear and structured information for clients seeking recourse against decisions of the NEAS Endorsement Committee.
• NEAS publishes its telephone number and email addresses on its website and also provides an instant messaging service during office hours. This allows clients and the general public to contact NEAS with ease. • The Mission of NEAS is to support the achievement of quality outcomes for English Language Teaching (ELT) globally. NEAS does this by advancing ELT quality assurance around the world and empowering knowledge partnerships within the ELT Community.
• NEAS provides free and for-fee professional development resources for teachers. NEAS supports unemployed and underemployed teachers and trainee teachers with free registration to its Thought Leadership events.
• NEAS conducts a free mentorship program for overseas interns. NEAS provides critical funding and support for the Council of International Student Australia, the national peak student representative organisation for international students.

Description: • NEAS is a founding member of the Quality Assurance in Language Education Network, a global consortium of Quality Assurance Agencies. This organisations members benchmark their standards and quality assurance processes between seven members from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Malta, UK, South Africa and Canada. www.QALEN.org

The NEAS QA Framework has been developed through extensive consultation with the English language teaching (ELT) profession in Australia and overseas, industry bodies and government.

Review is undertaken in response to changes and developments in the field, with changes implemented only after wide consultation.

The purpose of the NEAS QA Framework is to:

Establish and uphold high standards within the ELT industry
Support organisations and individuals in demonstrating quality in their programs, products
and services
Provide guidance to organisations and individuals in their continuous improvement processes
Promote recognition of quality organisations and individuals

Criteria Requirements for Institutional Member

Institutional Member Criteria:
Measure: Institutional Members are institutions of higher education in the region that are in good standing with the relevant quality assurance agency if one exists.
Proof of recognition as a Higher Education Institution: Applicable Only For Institutional Members
