Consultants/experts/advisers
The Consultants Database lists people with expertise in Quality Assurance in Higher Education who have expressed their willingness to provide advice to APQN member agencies. Different Consultants are competent to advise on different and specific matters of interest to agencies, such as agency structure, evaluation processes, assessor training, institution liaison and so on.
Generally, consultants are staff members of quality agencies, mainly (but not solely) within the Asia-Pacific region.
Using the consultant and reviewer databases
We have found that APQN member agencies often want advice or training on a particular topic, or want a particular program to be reviewed. They consult the consultant and reviewer databases, but find that they cannot tell from the CVs of the consultants and reviewers who might have the necessary knowledge or experience.
To assist members, the Secretariat has set up the following scheme. A member agency wanting particular consulting or reviewing advice or support should email the Secretariat, giving precisely:
- What is required
- When it is required
- Other relevant information (in brief)
- The name and email of the agency person to contact about the request
The Secretariat will send this information to all reviewers and consultants, inviting any who are interested and have the right expertise to contact the agency directly.
Heads of agencies are invited to submit the names and details of a couple more consultants, advisers or reviewers they have used, whether within the region or not, and whom they would recommend for the APQN databases.
Disclaimer
Consultants or Reviewers listed in either of the Databases are willing to be approached to do some work for APQN members. It will be up to the member agency and the consultant/reviewer to agree the terms and conditions of any appointment – APQN will not normally be involved in this process.
The listing of a consultant or reviewer on the APQN Databases does not mean that APQN guarantees the particular skills and expertise claimed by the consultant/reviewer: the databases are solely a method for linking agencies with a particular need with individuals who may be able to satisfy that need. It is up to the agency requiring services to satisfy itself that the consultant/reviewer has the desired competence.
Agencies are invited to give the Secretariat the names and expertise of senior staff who are competent and willing to act as consultants. Likewise, agencies are invited to give the Secretariat the names and expertise of reviewers who are competent and willing to act as APQN reviewers. Agencies may also submit the names of people from other countries/territories that they have used in this capacity and would commend for work in our region. Before proceeding, agencies should confirm with the nominee that they approve of their name being submitted.
