Karma El Hassan Professional Profile\r\n\r\nAssociate Professor of Educational Psychology Measurement and Evaluation at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and Director of the Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (OIRA) at the University. Has extensive experience in teaching, undergraduate and graduate courses, training, and research in area of expertise. Has conducted and supervised research in test development/adaptation, validation, and use. \r\nAs Director of OIRA, engaged in institutional assessment, development of annual assessment plans, and preparations for accreditation and peer review in higher education. With respect to accreditation at AUB, was member of accreditation and re-accreditation\r\nSelf-Study Design Teams, and chaired Institutional and Learning Outcome Assessment working groups on both occasions. Participated and presented in local, regional, and international conferences on modern assessment, assessment in higher education, criterion of quality, and language policies. Some of conference presentations, papers, and contributions in the last three years concentrated on a) defining quality in education and the criteria for measuring it, b) role of assessment in higher education, c) quality assurance measures in higher education in Lebanon, and d) disseminating AUB experience in this regard. A member of local, regional, and international organizations involved with educational research, assessment, and quality, as well as the Basic Education Strategic Planning Committee in Lebanon. As UNESCO Consultant since 2007, has prepared several country reports and a regional report on UNESCOâ??s education support strategy for the Middle East. Assisted in the development of a comprehensive assessment system and another one for self-assessment at the basic education level in Saudi Arabia.  As President of Association for Institutional Research for MENA region (MENA-AIR), organized MENA-AIR 2nd Annual Conference that was held at AUB November 4-5, 2010. Theme of the conference: Driving Change in Higher Education: Role of Institutional Research & Assessment. Has published in international and regional journals and books in areas of expertise.
